The Environment

Iowa is blessed to have some of the richest soil and most abundant natural resources on the planet. As a fifth generation family farmer, I understand the impact that humans have on the land and am determined to continue standing up for the environment when I am elected to Congress.

For the past 21 years, I have fought to protect Iowa’s environment by promoting sustainable agriculture and demanding that our elected officials enact laws that safeguard our natural resources.

As a family farmer I am concerned with the serious threat that global warming can cause to Iowa’s economy and way of life. While a few people may want to continue to debate the source of global warming, those who work closest with the land already know that climate change is very real and threatens the livelihood of farmers and consumers by creating uncertainties in our weather patterns that will have a big impact on crop yields, a farmer’s bottom line and the future of our world’s food supply.

Now more than ever it is vital that we elect leaders who understand the importance of protecting our nation’s rivers, streams, parks, soil and air. For over two decades I have worked with environmental and conservation leaders and elected officials across the country to create policies that would ensure clean air, clean water and a better environment for future generations.

We must act now if we want if we want to guarantee that legacy for our children and grandchildren and I am committed to continuing my efforts in making Iowa a leader on environmental issues.
